Also known as “body sculpting”, it is a procedure that alters the shape of the human body by eliminating excess skin and fat cells. It’s often used on specific areas of the body when diet and exercise aren’t making a difference.
Your team of plastic surgeons will consult with you to understand your goals. They will discuss the risks, benefits, and the cost of the procedure along with the plan.
Before your procedure, the surgeon may mark circles and lines on the areas of your body to be treated. Photos also may be taken so that before and after images can be compared.
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. and takes between 1-3 hours. Incision length and pattern depend on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed. A combination of lifts, tucks and liposuction might be used.
Expect some pain, swelling and bruising after the procedure. Your surgeon may prescribe medication to help control the pain and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.
You usually need to wear tight compression garments, which help reduce swelling, for a few weeks. You may need to wait a few days before returning to work and a few weeks before resuming your normal activities — including exercise
You may resume work in 2-3 weeks time from your surgery. Within a few months, expect the treated area to have a leaner appearance.
There are two basic reasons you might consider surgery — after massive weight loss to remove extra skin for symptoms, such as rashes, or to achieve the body shape you want by targeting specific areas.”
