Six Pack Surgery (Abdominal Etching) in Hyderabad.

Six pack surgery, also called abdominal etching, is a high definition liposuction procedure that sculpts and reveals the natural abdominal muscles underneath the fat. It is the answer for people who have done the work, are already lean, and still cannot get the chest and stomach to look defined no matter how hard they train. Performed personally by Dr. Rajesh Vasu at Apollo Hospitals, Financial District.

THE PROCEDURE

Sculpting what is already there. Or, sometimes, creating what is not.

Six pack surgery is a form of high definition liposuction that selectively removes fat from very specific areas of the abdomen to make the underlying ab muscles look more visible and defined. It is sometimes called abdominal etching, abs etching, or 6 pack liposculpting. All mean the same thing.

If you already have well-developed ab muscles hiding under a final layer of stubborn fat, the surgery uncovers them. If your ab muscles are not developed, the surgery sculpts the fat to mimic the appearance of definition, essentially creating a six pack look where the muscles themselves are not the source. Both are real applications. Both produce a striking visible result. But the honest conversation about which one applies to you happens in the consultation.

Six pack surgery is not a weight loss procedure. It is the final aesthetic step for someone who is already in a stable shape.

CANDIDACY

Honest note from Dr. Vasu: if you are not yet close to your target body weight, six pack surgery is unlikely to give you the result you are hoping for. The honest first step would be a different conversation, about liposuction, body contouring, or simply where you are in your fitness journey. Come for a consultation either way. We will tell you what is realistic and where to start.

HOW IT WORKS

Sculpting, not just suction.

Six pack surgery is performed using high definition liposuction technique, but the process is more nuanced than standard fat removal. The surgeon is not just removing fat. They are mapping the underlying muscles, marking the natural grooves between them, and then carefully thinning fat in some areas while preserving it in others, to mimic and accentuate the muscle definition beneath.

01

Assessment

Dr. Vasu examines you thoroughly and evaluates the areas of fat that need to be addressed, the desired amount of fat to be removed, the amount of intra-abdominal fat, any negative areas of the body that should not be liposuctioned, existing scars, optimal incision placement, and the quality of your skin. The result depends on getting this assessment right.

02

Markings

With you standing, the surgical map is drawn directly onto your skin. The semilunar lines are marked on either side of the longitudinal rectus abdominis muscle. The linea alba is marked down the midline. The transverse inscriptions of the rectus muscle (the horizontal lines that divide the ‘pack’ into sections) are mapped, with the lowest typically at the level of the umbilicus and two more superior horizontal lines above. For patients wanting high definition results, the iliac crest indentation lines and serratus lines are also drawn. This is the blueprint for the entire surgery.

03

Surgery

Performed as a day care procedure, under general anaesthesia or regional anaesthesia, typically taking one and a half to two hours. Through very small port incisions (usually placed around the belly button to keep them hidden), high definition liposuction removes fat from specific and defined areas of the abdomen, in between the abdominal musculature. Fat is thinned in some zones and preserved in others, making the natural abdominal rippling more evident and accentuated. The flanks are also addressed to create a tapered V-shape that frames the abdomen.

04

Closure and garment

The small port incisions are closed with fine sutures. Compression foam is placed directly over the etched lines and the compression garment is fitted before you leave. The foam and garment together hold the new sculpted contours in place during early healing, which is critical to the final result.

The specific combination depends on your face. No two facelifts are identical, which is why the planning during your consultation matters as much as the surgery itself.

A closer look at the surgical technique.

For patients who want to understand the technical detail of how six pack surgery is actually performed, this is the surgical approach Dr. Vasu uses, broken down into the three stages of the operation.

01

Stage 1 — Setup and approach

Six pack liposculpting is performed as a day care procedure, usually under general anaesthesia or regional anaesthesia. The procedure typically takes one and a half to two hours. The core principle is high definition liposuction: fat is removed from specific, defined areas of the abdomen, in between the abdominal musculature, in a way that makes the natural abdominal rippling more evident and more accentuated. This is fundamentally different from standard liposuction, which removes fat uniformly to slim an area. Here, the goal is to sculpt, not slim.

02

Stage 2 — Incisions and fat redistribution

Access is through very small port site incisions made around the umbilicus, where they remain hidden after healing. Through these ports, fat is treated in three different ways depending on the zone. In some areas, fat is removed entirely. In others, it is thinned to a controlled depth. In specific zones, it is preserved and rearranged to accentuate the rectus abdominis muscles and the linea alba, the natural midline that runs down the centre of the abdomen. The decisions about where to remove, where to thin, and where to preserve are what separate a natural-looking result from an over-sculpted one.

03

Stage 3 — Definition and finishing

Differential and superficial liposuction is used to highlight the natural grooves between the abdominal muscles, creating visible depth where the body's own anatomy already exists. Adequate liposuction of the flanks contributes significantly to the overall aesthetic, creating a V-shaped trunk that tapers down from the chest to the waist and frames the abdominal sculpting beautifully. At the end of the procedure, compression foam is placed directly over the etched areas. This foam is critical to the final result. It holds the carved grooves in place during the early healing phase, allowing the skin to adhere to the new contour rather than swelling smoothly back over the etched lines.

HD LIPOSCULPTING FOR MEN

Not just the stomach.

The same high definition technique used to sculpt the abs can be applied to other parts of the body, particularly in men who train and want sharper overall definition. The goal is always the same: reveal and accentuate the muscle beneath, not just remove fat in bulk.

CHEST SCULPTING

Chest (Pectorals)

Defines the pectoral muscles in men and removes stubborn fat over the lower chest. In men with gynecomastia (glandular tissue), this is treated as a separate procedure rather than HD liposuction alone.
WAIST DEFINITION

Flanks and Obliques

Removes the love handles and shapes the natural V-line from the waist down to the hips, completing the athletic torso look that pairs with the abdominal sculpting.
ARM CONTOURING

Arms (Biceps and Triceps)

Thins fat over the upper arms to make the underlying muscle definition more visible. Often paired with chest work for a complete upper-body sculpt.
V-TAPER ENHANCEMENT

Back and Shoulders

Refines the contour of the upper back and shoulders, completing the V-tapered silhouette from a rear view.

These areas can be combined in one session where safe. Dr. Vasu will advise what is realistic to do at the same time as your abs.

What to Expect on the Day

01

Consultation and assessment

Dr. Vasu examines your abdomen, assesses fat, skin quality, existing muscle development, and any scars. He tells you honestly whether you are a good candidate, and what the realistic result will look like.

02

Markings and planning

On the day of surgery, with you standing, Dr. Vasu marks the muscle borders, the linea alba, the horizontal lines that define the 'pack', and the iliac and serratus lines if high definition is planned. Photographs are taken for reference.

03

The procedure

Performed under general or regional anaesthesia in an Apollo theatre. Through small port incisions around the belly button, fat is selectively removed and sculpted to reveal the underlying muscle definition.

04

Discharge

Six pack surgery is usually performed as a day care procedure. Most patients go home the same day in a compression garment with foam placed over the etched lines.

recovery

Healing, in five stages.

FIRST 48 HOURS

Bruising and tightness

Bruising, swelling, blunting of sensation, and hardness over the operated areas are normal. Pain is mild to moderate and well controlled with prescribed medication. Compression garment and foam stay on.

WEEK 1

Sutures and back to work

Sutures over the cannula sites are removed at the end of week 1. Most patients resume a normal desk work schedule within a week. Compression garment continues 24/7.

WEEK 2 TO 3

Garment and gentle movement

Compression garment is worn 24/7 throughout this phase. Light daily activity is comfortable. Swelling settles steadily. Lymphatic massage may be advised to refine the contour.

WEEK 4 TO 6

Garment comes off

Compression garment is usually worn for 4 to 6 weeks in total. Once cleared, normal activity resumes. The etched lines become more visible as the last swelling clears.

Full recovery

Final result

Full effect of the surgery is visible. With a healthy diet and consistent training, the result holds long-term. Significant weight gain can change the result, so maintenance is part of the deal.

WHY DR. VASU

This is art as much as it is surgery.

Six pack surgery is one of the most artistic procedures in plastic surgery. Remove too much fat in the wrong place and the result looks fake, sharp-edged, and obvious. Remove too little and the definition is barely visible. The sculpting that produces a natural, athletic, masculine result is judgement built across thousands of cases. Done well, no one can tell. Done poorly, everyone can.

HOSPITAL

Apollo Hospitals, Financial District

Performed in a fully accredited tertiary care hospital with full anaesthesia support, sterile theatres, and advanced monitoring. The safety infrastructure that surgery of this length and depth calls for.

SURGEON

A plastic surgeon, every time

Performed personally by Dr. Vasu, with plastic surgery technique applied to every lift, deep-layer repositioning, hidden incisions, and the conservative judgement that produces a natural result, refined over 30 years.

COST

What changes the price.

Six pack surgery cost in Hyderabad varies because no two cases are identical. The main things that change the price are whether you are having only the abs sculpted or combining it with other HD lipo areas (chest, flanks, arms), the anaesthesia type, and your overall fitness profile which affects time under anaesthesia.

Dr. Vasu gives you a full written treatment plan with the cost broken down before anything is scheduled. Surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, compression garment, follow-ups, all included. No hidden charges.

For NRI and international patients, six pack surgery in Hyderabad delivers internationally trained surgical artistry at a fraction of the cost of the same procedure abroad.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions, answered honestly.

What can I expect from six pack liposculpting?

Six pack surgery (also called abdominal etching) is a high definition liposuction procedure that sculpts and enhances the appearance of the waistline and creates six-pack abs. Instead of just slimming the midsection, it removes fat strategically to make the abdominal muscles look more prominent, defined, and attractive. The result is a sculpted, athletic abdomen rather than just a flatter one.

Am I a candidate for abdominal etching?

The best candidates are men and women already in relatively good shape, with mild to moderate abdominal fat. People with large amounts of abdominal fat are not suitable as it results in an unnatural appearance. Ideal candidates are healthy, non-smokers, free of major health conditions, not obese, less than 30 percent over their ideal body weight, with healthy muscle tone and good skin elasticity. Dr. Vasu confirms candidacy during your consultation honestly.

How does six pack surgery differ from regular liposuction?

Regular liposuction removes fat broadly to slim an area. Six pack surgery is a form of 3D high definition liposuction that carves fat selectively to accentuate the underlying muscle. Small incisions around the belly button allow fat to be removed in some areas and preserved in others to deepen the natural grooves between muscles, creating a visibly toned and defined look. Where standard lipo flattens, abs etching sculpts.

Will the etched lines look fake?

Done well, no. The result mimics natural muscle definition because Dr. Vasu maps your actual underlying anatomy and follows the lines your body already has. Done poorly elsewhere, with sharp over-aggressive etching that does not respect natural anatomy, the result can look obvious. The artistic skill of the surgeon is what separates the two.

Are there any side effects with six pack surgery?

Common temporary side effects include bruising, swelling, mild skin discoloration, fluid accumulation, brief blunting of sensation, and minor irregular healing in some patients. Most settle within days to weeks. Serious complications like nerve or blood vessel damage are rare with careful surgical technique in a full hospital setting.

When will I see the results, and how long do they last?

Initial results emerge as swelling settles over the first 4 to 6 weeks. The full result is visible at 4 to 6 months as the skin adheres to the new contour. Results are long-lasting as long as your weight stays stable and you maintain healthy diet and training. Significant weight gain or, in women, pregnancy can change the result. Maintenance through lifestyle is part of the deal.

Will there be visible scars?

The incisions are very small (usually only a few millimetres) and are placed around the belly button or in natural skin creases, where they are easily hidden. They fade further over the following months.

Can six pack surgery be combined with other procedures?

Yes. In men, it is often combined with gynecomastia surgery for a complete chest and abdomen transformation. In women, it can be combined with breast surgery or Brazilian Butt Lift. However, it cannot be combined with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), because the blood supply to the abdominal skin would be compromised, risking skin necrosis. Dr. Vasu will advise what is safe in your case.

What is 4D body contouring?

4D body contouring is a related technique that uses VASER (ultrasound assisted) liposuction to remove fat across the torso with even greater precision, revealing the underlying muscle tone in dynamic, three-dimensional definition. It is an evolution of the high definition liposuction technique used for six pack surgery.

How painful is the surgery?

The procedure itself is painless because of anaesthesia. Afterwards, most patients describe soreness and tightness rather than significant pain, similar to a heavy workout ache. It is well controlled with prescribed medication and eases steadily through the first week.

Will I lose my abs if I stop training afterwards?

The fat removed is gone permanently. But the result depends on the underlying muscles staying defined and your body fat staying low, so continued training and a healthy diet are essential for the long term. The surgery rewards discipline, it does not replace it.

The finishing touch your training cannot give you.

If you have already done the work, lean, training consistently, eating right, and your abs still will not show the way you want them to, six pack surgery may be the right next step. A 15 to 20 minute consultation with Dr. Vasu is the simplest place to start. He will tell you honestly whether you are a good candidate, what the realistic result will look like, and what your recovery would involve. No pressure to proceed. Just honest, expert advice.
