Liposuction

Liposuction, also known as “Lipo” is a fat removal procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, neck or butt.

3 Simple Steps to Liposuction

01

Assessment

Your team of plastic surgeons will consult with you to understand your needs and then discuss the risks, benefits, and the cost.

02

Markings

Before your liposuction procedure, the surgeon may mark circles and lines on the areas of your body to be treated. Photos also may be taken so that before and after images can be compared.

03

Surgery

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. and takes between 1-3 hours. Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions.

Various techniques used in Liposuction

Laser Assisted Liposuction (LAL)

is safely transported while still being attached to a strip of tissue called the pedicle to a higher and a more aesthetically pleasing position.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

is then strategically removed from different areas of the breast to reduce and reshape the remaining breast and the breasts also get lifted to achieve a perkier look.

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL)

A cannula that moves in a rapid back-and-forth motion is used. This vibration allows the surgeon to pull out tough fat more easily, faster and with precision. Usually recommended when a large volume of fat needs to be removed.

Tumescent Liposuction

The surgeon injects a sterile solution which aids fat removal. Small cuts are made into your skin and a cannula is inserted under your skin. This cannula is connected to a vacuum that sucks fat and fluids from your body.

Myths about Liposuction

Liposuction can be best explained as a contouring procedure that involves removal of stubbornly positioned fat which remains in spite of the stringent diet and physical exercises. Liposuction surely reduces some weight after the surgery, but if only weight loss is your main objective, your areas of target need to be balanced diet and exercise.

After liposuction, the results should definitely last for long, provided you stick to the basics of proper dieting and indulge in physical exercises or activities. It should be clearly borne in the mind that this procedure removes only part of the fat beneath the skin (not the fat inside abdomen) to achieve contoured body and hence not every fat cell of your body is removed. So if you start opting for unhealthy food, the results of the procedure can get easily negated.

No way, as this is not a minimal invasive procedure there will be pain. However, the pain caused due to liposuction is not life crippling. You may experience mild soreness in the first couple of days after the surgery, after which only moderate pain should persist. If any sort of unbearable pain continues, it needs to be communicated to the surgeon.

Contrary to common belief, Liposuction is not just for women. Men can undergo liposuction too. In fact, the popularity of liposuction has attained new heights that it has become one of the top cosmetic procedures performed for men. Be it for removing additional fat in abdomen, love handles, or chest, men all are also equally interested in liposuction.

Post Operative Care for Belly Button Reshaping

Immediately after the surgery

Expect some pain, swelling and bruising after the procedure. Your surgeon may prescribe medication to help control the pain and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.

The weeks that follow

You usually need to wear tight compression garments, which help reduce swelling, for a few weeks. You may need to wait a few days before returning to work and a few weeks before resuming your normal activities — including exercise.

Full recovery timeline

Within a few months, expect the treated area to have a leaner appearance.
