Nipple Reduction

Nipple reduction is a surgery to reduce the projection and or girth of the nipple. This can be done as a part of breast surgery (augmentation/reduction/ lift) or separately.

3 Simple Steps to Nipple Reduction

01

Nipple reduction if performed alone, can be done under local anaesthesia, whereas if performed as a part of breast surgery, will be performed under general anaesthesia. There are two techniques used in nipple reductions: the wedge technique and the flap technique.

03

The very fine absorbable stitches will fall out naturally after a week to 10 days, and the dressings will be removed after 1 week. You may experience minimal swelling and discomfort for 2 weeks, and at 4- 6 weeks you may expect to see the final result.

02

The wedge involves cutting a wedge-shaped piece out of the nipple and attaching the sides together. The flap technique involves making an incision around the base of the nipple at the desired projection level, leaving a small portion attached. The excess tissue is removed and the flap is turned down to create a smaller nipple.

How is Nipple Reduction surgery performed?

Nipple Areolar Complex

is safely transported while still being attached to a strip of tissue called the pedicle to a higher and a more aesthetically pleasing position.

Breast tissue

is then strategically removed from different areas of the breast to reduce and reshape the remaining breast and the breasts also get lifted to achieve a perkier look.

Liposuction

is used in most breast reduction surgeries to achieve a better contour of the lateral chest area in order to achieve an overall better looking breasts.

Post Operative Care for Belly Button Reshaping

Immediately after the surgery

You may expect bruising, swelling, blunting of sensations, and hardness over the operated areas for few days. Sutures over liposuction cannula sites may be removed after 1'st week. Most patients are able to resume a normal work schedule within 1 week.

The weeks that follow

You may be advised to wear a compression foam and the compression garment to make you comfortable, and reduce the swelling and bruising. The compression garment may have to be worn 24/7 for a period of 4-6 weeks.

Full recovery timeline

You may be advised to refrain from heavy exercise, and gymming for a period of 6 weeks. The full effect of surgery should be noticed within 6 months.

FAQ

If you’re an adult and have nipples that you feel are too wide, too long, or both,
and in generally good health, you’re likely to be a good candidate for nipple
reduction. The procedure can be performed on both men and women. Nipple
reduction is not recommended for women who plan to breast feed soon, or those
who are pregnant.

Toggle ContentEvery patient comes to nipple reduction surgery with slightly different aims, and
we at Illumina,  will adapt the technique to meet the patient’s specific
requirements.

Most of the people recover in approximately 10 days’ time. Many individuals
return to work on the very second day. Patients are advised to refrain from
strenuous exercise and sexual activity for 6 weeks.

The scars from nipple reduction surgery are among the least visible plastic surgery
scars. They are extremely inconspicuous and are usually hidden on the underside
of the nipple and in the fold where the nipple meets the areola.

Like any other surgical procedure, nipple reduction may be associated with risks
like pain, infection, asymmetry, temporary loss of sensation, or increased
sensitivity, loss of pigment, disruption of sutures and scarring.

Nipple reduction will not impact a woman’s ability to breastfeed. Rarely,
nipple reduction performed by untrained people may result in blocked
ducts, impairing breast feeding. That’s why, it’s always important to be
operated by a board certified plastic surgeon who is trained well enough
in the particular surgery.
