A 60-minute day care procedure to refine lip proportions — performed by Dr. Rajesh Vasu, AIIMS-trained plastic surgeon. Hidden incisions on the inside of the lip. No visible scarring. Walk in, walk out.

Lip reduction is suitable for patients whose upper lip, lower lip, or both are larger than is proportionate to the rest of the face. The decision isn’t only about size — it’s about facial harmony, function, and what you want to feel comfortable with when you look in the mirror.

A consultation with Dr. Vasu confirms candidacy. Most patients who walk in with this concern are good candidates — we screen at the consultation, not at booking.
Lip reduction is performed under local anaesthesia, in a sterile day care theatre, in approximately 60 minutes. The technique used by Dr. Vasu places all incisions on the inside of the lip — meaning when you smile, talk, or look in the mirror, no scar is visible.
A precisely calculated strip of tissue is removed from the inner surface of the lip. The lip is then closed with fine, dissolving sutures along the wet line — entirely hidden inside the mouth. The amount of tissue removed is mapped at consultation based on your facial proportions and what you want to achieve.
Dr. Vasu examines your earlobe, discusses the type of repair, and confirms re-piercing options.
15–20 MIN
A small injection numbs only the earlobe. You’re awake and comfortable throughout.
Torn or stretched edges are precisely aligned and sutured using fine plastic surgery technique to minimise scarring.
You go home the same day. Most patients drive themselves; a companion is welcome but not required.
Local anaesthesia means the lip area is fully numb, but you remain awake. Most patients describe the procedure as comfortable — they feel pressure, no pain. Dr. Vasu and the team talk you through it.
Final markings on the inside of the lip. Confirmation of plan with you. Photographs taken for medical record.
Local anaesthetic injected into the lip area. You will feel a brief pinch, then numbness.
Tissue removal and closure with dissolving sutures inside the mouth. You're awake, comfortable, and we talk to you throughout.
Brief observation. Ice pack applied. Aftercare instructions, prescription, and follow-up scheduled. You walk out the same day.
Most patients arrive in the morning and are home by lunchtime. You will need someone to drive you home — talking and chewing will be uncomfortable for the first 24 hours.
” A torn earlobe is small. The scar that replaces it stays visible for years. The difference between one that fades and one that doesn’t is the surgeon.”
Following aftercare carefully matters more than most patients realise. The biggest single factor in a good lip reduction result — outside the surgery itself — is how well you protect the lip during week one.
Lip reduction is sometimes performed as part of a larger facial harmonisation plan — alongside rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, or facelift. When combined with other surgery, the procedure may be performed under general anaesthesia in a hospital operating theatre rather than as a standalone day care procedure. Recovery, cost, and timeline are different in this scenario.
If you’re considering lip reduction as part of broader facial surgery, this is discussed at consultation and planned together.
Performed in a fully accredited tertiary care hospital — sterile theatre, advanced infection control, hospital-grade safety standards. Not a clinic room.
Performed personally by Dr. Vasu. No technicians, no junior staff, no routing through general practice. Plastic surgery technique applied to every repair, however small.
30+ years of clinical experience. 5,000+ procedures performed. Internationally trained in aesthetic surgery at one of Europe’s most respected institutes.

I’d been hiding my torn earlobes under my hair for nearly a decade. Thirty minutes with Dr. Vasu and they were gone. The scar is honestly invisible. I wish I’d done it years ago.

Calm, surgical, completely judgment-free. I had stretched lobes from old gauges and Dr. Vasu treated it as a serious repair, not a cosmetic afterthought. Healed beautifully.

I went to two dermatologists before I came here. The difference in technique is immediately obvious. This is a plastic surgeon doing a plastic surgeon’s job.

No. Dr. Vasu’s technique places all incisions on the inside of the lip, along the wet line. When you smile, talk, or look in the mirror, nothing is visible. This is the single biggest reason patients choose this technique over older methods.
Yes. The tissue removed does not grow back. The result is a one-time, permanent refinement. The only thing that can change the shape afterwards is significant weight gain or weight loss, which can affect facial fullness in general.
The procedure itself is comfortable — you feel pressure, not pain, because the area is fully numbed with local anaesthesia. The first 48 hours afterwards involve manageable soreness, controlled with prescribed medication. Most patients describe it as more inconvenient than painful.
Most patients return to work within 5–7 days. If your work involves significant talking, public-facing roles, or videoconferencing, plan for 7–10 days. Visible swelling in week one is normal, but it is noticeable.
Not when planned correctly. The whole point of Dr. Vasu’s approach is proportion — refining the lip to suit the face, not reducing it to a target measurement. The vermilion border, the natural lip line, is preserved. The shape stays yours, just refined.
The amount is mapped at consultation, based on your facial proportions and what you want to change. It varies from a few millimetres for subtle refinement to more for significant reduction. There is no fixed amount — it’s tailored.
Once tissue is removed, it cannot be put back surgically. If a patient changed their mind years later and wanted fuller lips, dermal fillers could add volume — but this is discussed thoroughly at consultation, and we don’t proceed unless you are clear and confident.
Generally, no — lip reduction is classified as aesthetic surgery and is not covered by most Indian health insurance policies. We provide proper invoicing for any reimbursement attempts. (Exception: if there is a documented functional issue — speech, drooling, mouth closure — partial coverage may be possible. Discussed at consultation.)
Pricing is shared at the consultation, where the exact scope is confirmed. We commit to full transparency on cost before any procedure is scheduled — no surprises later. [Pricing detail pending Peetu/Dr. Vasu decision — Option A band, B consultation only, or C standalone procedure pricing.]
Yes. Many patients plan it as part of a broader facial harmonisation. When combined with other surgery, it’s typically performed under general anaesthesia rather than as a standalone day care procedure. Discussed and planned at consultation.
The result is permanent. Lips do change subtly with age — they thin slightly over decades, like all facial tissue. But the proportion correction from the procedure stays. You will not “regrow” the tissue removed.
A consultation gives you clarity. Dr. Vasu assesses your lips and face in proportion, walks you through what’s possible, what isn’t, what it costs, and what to expect — honestly. You leave with enough information to make a confident decision, with no pressure to book the procedure that day.
